Temporary Insanity
Hammer In My Heart
World Wide Epiphany
From a car park to a canopy....!
This was one of the best concerts of the tour, especially as all the band seemed in very good spirits! It was held in (or under) the Memorial Music Stage and Canopy in the grounds of the Oakland University as part of the Meadowbrook Music Festival. It was set in an amphitheatre arrangement down a hill.
The original support act didn't turn up and no explanation was given. The replacement was a comedian who came on promptly at 8.00 and was all but booed off the stage by 8.14! Although he probably did his best, he was embarrassingly awful and only got laughs when he asked if we wished the original support was there! Eventually he had a contest as to whether the people at the back on the lawn or those of us at the front (under the canopy) hated him more!
Because of this The Power Trio came on at 8.30 for a two hour concert which the crowd loved! When they walked on Todd announced that he could see that there had been a rush on the cheaper seats (it was probably the largest crowd of the tour and the lawn was packed) but that it was a shame as those people wouldn't be able to see their bulges!
After the opening I Hate My Frickin ISP (complete with error as local
calls at Motel 6 are free not one dollar!) they sang Play This Game for
a change before the usual third placed Love Of The Common Man.
Todd was certainly in playful mood tonight as during the break in Love In Action he kept going to restart the song and then stopped which kept Kasim and Trey on their toes! He then waited until Kasim took a mouthful of water at the back of the stage before playing the opening bars of Trapped! They turned up Kasim's microphone for that track but had turned down Todd's too much so that he couldn't be heard that well. Todd also had trouble with his mike stand so he missed a line as he was off-stage getting it sorted out.
Kasim IS wearing different footwear on his broken foot now as the plaster is hardly visible. He was moving a lot better tonight (he didn't use his cane at all) and hardly sat! He got quite carried away in There Goes My Inspiration too as he just continued singing some of Todd's part after one chorus!
When they got to the foot-breaking part of Couldn't I Just Tell You, Todd looked straight at Kasim again but fortunately Kasim emphatically shook his head to refuse to scissor jump! Instead Todd leapt around on one leg with the other in the air!
Probably because of the comedian, they extended the post Todd Solo Spot part of the concert tonight as they usually come back on to play The Ikon but tonight we had Secret Society (with backing tape) first (they seem to be singing that more and more as the tour progresses).
Another additional song tonight was the Mystified Melody which we haven't heard for a while! They then went back to the usual great Buffalo Grass followed by One World which got most people up dancing! In One World tonight we had the punch at the end of the second verse instead of the first and Todd just gave up with naming places and screamed instead!
We had a third unexpected additional song tonight when they came back for the first encore as they sang Temporary Insanity before Hammer In My Heart.
By the time they returned for World Wide Epiphany nearly all the people around me were dancing!
