The Birthday Concert

This just has to be one of the worst venues ever as it was just a stage with a slab of concrete (complete with pools of water!) and the loos were the most basic ever!

We got there early as there was a great beach bar nearby so, as we parked the car, we could hear part of the soundcheck! They were singing Buffalo Grass (or at least Kasim was as Todd wasn't singing and he totally drowned out Trey!).

The support act tonight were an acoustic duo who weren't too loud so we could talk over them okay!

Our Hero came on promptly at 10.00 and the audience immediately burst into a spontaneous chorus of Happy Birthday while Todd collected some cards and presents! This was the only mention of what day it was other than Todd saying thanks to us for making this his best birthday this year and that, as he was brought up nearby, he thought the best way to celebrate his birthday was with his "white trash friends"!

It was a good set list tonight with both Hit Me Like A Train and Secret Society being included which made a nice change. Todd finished Secret Society quite abruptly as he just ended the song which Kasim found amusing! No broken strings again tonight!

For the encores Kasim just hopped to stand just off his side of the stage rather than go off across the stage with the others. He's a very fast hopper! There were no toes on show tonight as he had a black sock over his foot. At one point in the concert Kasim managed to knock over his bottle of water that was on another stool beside him and Todd remarked that it was like a slapstick comedy! Todd made no mention of why he was on crutches and I was amazed at the end that the concert the roadies didn't even help him to get his crutches but instead he had to ask Trey to get them for him!

The lights were done very well tonight as they lit up all the band quite a bit but the sound was bad as all their voices were muffled but it may have been the rotten PA system in the dive!
