Slim's, San Francisco 9th June 1999

Set List

Concert Review by Paul Buckland:

A more coherent review this time! Todd played at Slim's which is a bar in San Francisco which is partly owned by Boz Scaggs. It's capacity is 430 but there were, I guess, about 300 there of all ages.

The first set was, in Todd's words, raw rock and roll. It lasted for about an hour and started with one of his new songs about the Net, followed by Fix Your Gaze. They performed 5 Utopia songs in all including Hammer in my Heart and Trapped. Todd and Kasim dueting together still sends shivers down my spine.

After an hour break (female singer Julie Christensen and set change) Todd came back for another 90 minutes in the WAT / Tikki mould. This was when Todd's banter with the band and the audience was pure magic. He also made some deliciously witty comments about Austin Powers, Ricky Martin and Gerri Halliwell.

At the start of this set Kas's mike was too loud so when he sang the backing vocals he drowned out John and Jessie and it sounded like another Todd / Kas duet.

Jessie and John both had a chance at the spotlight in Synthesised and proved what great musician they both are too. Todd sure picks his band well.

If you get a chance to see this show, take it!!!!!!!!!!
