Kasim Sulton on Richie Sambora's Undiscovered Soul Tour

Amsterdam – 20th July 1998

I reached Amsterdam at 2.00 and asked for directions to the hall and then spent the next hour driving around Amsterdam as there are hardly any roadsigns but loads of trams and cyclists! I once went the wrong way down a one way street and twice had to drive across pavements as the road seemed to disappear! No wonder there aren't many actual cars in Amsterdam! They're probably all in the canals! Eventually I decided to abandon the car and walked!

I reached the Parisado Night-club (which was an ex - church) at 4.00 and rather naively thought that there might be four or five people there but to my surprise there must have been about 50 people there already! They opened the doors at 7.30 and there was the usual rush (why don't the Europeans queue up?) and I grazed my arm on a wall that I got pushed against but in fact there was plenty of room as loads of people went up to the balconies. The stage was almost as tall as me and I started standing right in front of Kasim at the front but I thought that I'd end up with a stiff neck so I moved to two steps at the side. It was a great spot as I had nobody in front of me so I could see really clearly. The only problem was that it was right in front of the huge bank of speakers and at times I could actually feel the music coming out! I was quite deaf the next day too!

The Concert

Richie Sambora was on from about 9.45 until 12.10 and the concert was brilliant! This was definitely my favourite concert of the Richie Sambora tour! Kasim was wearing brown boots, his black tight at the neck V- neck and black trousers (with pockets down the leg). Kasim really seemed to enjoy the concert - he kept smiling and chatting to people in front of him and up on the balcony! As it was so hot, twice Kasim gave people in the audience bottles of water! Richie Sambora said that tonight was being recorded for a live album! For the first time in Undiscovered Soul Kasim managed to sing "Born and raised in poverty" instead of just rushing to the microphone in time for "Poverty"! He also did the talking with Richie Sambora at the end of Undiscovered Soul! It was a brilliant concert and SO long !
