The first thing I noticed tonight when I walked in the hall was that it was a lot warmer (thank goodness!). The Beacon Theatre is another ornate hall and has two enormous statues either side of the stage and murals on the hall. Tonight several times I could hear balloons exploding that are tied to the ceiling in preparation for the New Years Eve concert!

This was another great concert after a dodgy start! (In Home by Now Meat sang one line twice and in Life is a Lemon he sang one line late!) Meat's voice seemed even stronger tonight than it did last night and that band are excellent! There was a slight change before Lawyers, Guns and Money tonight as Meat asked anybody who had ever been sued to stand up before he asked for all the lawyers - I was surprised at how many people had been sued!

Virtually the first question was about all the duets that Meat has recorded so he listed them all starting with the Stoney and Meat Loaf album. He decided to sing DeadRinger with Patti and reckoned that he HAS to sing it in England each concert or he'd "be hung, drawn and quartered" if he didn't! (I think we gave up doing that to criminals a few years ago and I certainly remember that he never sang it on the Everything Louder tour there in 1994!) Near the end of DeadRinger both Meat and Patti "chucked" a beer back although Meat reckoned that most of Patti's went on the floor!

At the end of Hot Patootie Meat got Pearl and Patti to stand at either side of the stage to sing and then he jivved with Patti and twisted with Pearl!

Someone asked about Barry Manilow's cover version of Read 'em and Weep so again Meat told us about Manilow's cringing performance on Saturday Night Live and then attempted to sing it himself. He warned us that it was only the second ever time that he'd sang it live and he did quite well - Kasim only had to help him out once! I wish he'd sing it more as it's a strong song and far better than Barry Manilow's version!

Someone asked about Meat's influences so after he'd explained the backdrop, he started singing the ditty Take Me Out to the Ball Game (as he did in Boston) and set off on a trek around the theatre!

Again tonight Meat got a guy up on the piano and again Anne and Susan from the UK Fan Club were part of the You Took the Words choir! For Crying Out Loud sounded good and stronger again tonight! Afterwards Meat went to the side of the stage to kiss Leslie, his wife. (Amanda was in the audience tonight too.)

The Paradise couple tonight were more reserved but Meat had got a heckler from the balcony down to sit on the stage and he started making a phone call on his mobile phone which was funny!

There were no band introductions tonight but I noticed that all the band were wearing all black clothes (Kasim had on a black top that he hasn't worn before on this tour). Meat always wears the same outfit - I wonder how many sets of that he has!

It was another no-intro rushed All Revved Up tonight for them to finish at 11.01!

Review by Nancy

The show on Wed night (12/29/99) at the Beacon Theater in NYC was incredible.

Meat had soooo much energy and his voice was very strong and steady. It started off pretty much the same as Monday night, a local DJ coming out to lay down the ground rules and to introduce Meat. Meat came out, repeated the ground rules and gave the audience instructions for what to do when he entrapped the latecomers to request a song, or to anyone for that matter who made any kind of request. He started the show with the same 3 songs, too: Home By Now, Life is a Lemon and Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Some of the interaction with the audience: There were a few young children in the audience, and Meat went up to them and asked their ages. He then told them not to use the language he was using at home, but it was ok for them to use it at school. He later got a request from one of the young girls for him to sign a copy of his book, and he did, stating that the audience couldn't give the usual response to someone so young. He also signed someone's leg brace, saying that the audience couldn't give the usual response to someone who was injured. He signed the front of the brace, but the women wanted him to sign the back of it, so he did, after making a comment. This women was on the other side of the theater from me, and I didn't see her, but Meat was saying something about her getting so emotional, and to stop, because he couldn't handle it. There was also a guy in the audience that Meat went up to, asked for his ticket and told him to read it...and when he got to "Storytellers", Meat said "that's why I'm doing so much talking and I'll sing in a minute". I guess the guy was complaining about too much talk or something.

Also, there was a women who was told Meat about a review she read in Newsday (I think) and she thought they were totally off base. Meat wanted to know what it was about, and she said it was about how rude he was to the audience, really putting them down, etc. Meat then went on to say to ask anybody...his family...what a "cupcake" he was. He then tried to get his wife out on stage, but she wouldn't do it. Also, someone asked where he got his inspiration from, and he said sports, which led into Take Me out to the Ballgame.

Also someone asked him about Read 'Em and Weep, and he said that the song was ruined for him because Barry Manilow covered it. But he did attempt to sing it, and at one point (the band did not stop playing) he turned around to Kas and said..."I don't know what to do"...missed a few lines and then continued.

One last note, he did a version of For Crying out Loud that blew me away...I was fighting back the tears all thru the song...it was just amazing.

They played for close to 3 hours again, and I think tonight Meat gave about 200%.
