Review

Back to America and this was a very interesting concert from a stage management point of view! The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that the curtain was missing. The free standing metal construction that houses most of the stage lights was on the floor (which is why they didn't use the curtain), in front of the stage which meant that some front seats had to be removed again, thankfully not mine! As soon as Meat came on stage he remarked on the Christmas lights that were around some of the hall - it was such a shame that they'd left one whole wall bare!

It was good to see the band during Home by Now / No Matter What (I think they did it twice in Europe like that too) and they played their parts well. Assuming that Kasim sang the part that he actually sang on the recording of the track, Patti and Pearl did an absolutely faultless impersonation of Eric Troyer and Crystal Taliefero, sometimes without even moving their lips! As I was so close to Damon I noticed that he didn't even hit any of his pedals before they launched into Life is a Lemon either!

After Lawyers, Guns and Money, someone asking Meat about his movie career lead into his usual list of upcoming films and a plug for The Fight Club but then they played Hot Patootie from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. In the musical part Meat emphasised Damon's guitar playing and then Tom on the piano.

Meat had problems with three people on the balcony so he decided that either the balcony were all on something or had been let out of an institution for the evening! Eventually a coherent guy from the balcony asked about Sailor To A Siren so Meat got him down on stage to sing with him. The band played the track well but, despite trying it three times, the guy was incapable of keeping in time with them and sang to a totally different rhythm! Meat kept trying to keep him in time but then Meat himself couldn't sing as he was laughing so much!

It was as Meat was taking some more questions that suddenly all the lights in the hall went off other than one spotlight on him! Meat explained that they'd had a problem with the generator before the show and they came on again after about a minute. As Meat was about to start his "In about 1975 we didn't have a demo for the Bat out of Hell album ......" intro into Paradise, Kasim handed him a couple of cards which told him to do a long setup for Paradise as they were still having generator problems and would have to turn all the lights again! Unfortunately when they did perform it, the Paradise couple or more especially the girl (understandable as she had her parents in the audience) were very tame tonight - I think they only kissed once on the lips!

For the last few concerts, they started playing a really long intro into All Revved Up (which gives Meat a chance to play guitar) so most of the audience don't recognise it for quite a while!
