Auditorium Theatre

Set List

Review by Kristy

The Rochester Auditorium was literally that, an old high school auditorium. A bit dressed up, but you could tell what it had been.

Usual questions from the audience, Paradise, Paradise, Paradise. Tom got a welcome distraction by the name of Janet who came up and adorned the piano for most of the night. Had quite a few people up there for the choral section of You Took The Words, along with two adorable children. Meat was so good with them, he's going to be a wonderful grandfather!

They didn't do too many songs off the audience though. No Rock & Roll Dreams - I know we've all heard that one played to death, but it's so much different live.

Ended up staying at the same hotel and got chatting with Patti after, she is truly one in a million.

Review

From the outside, this building looked just like a school auditorium and inside it was just as plain! The concert was good but, of course, we had the usual banal questions unfortunately! I've come to the conclusion that most people at these concerts aren't real Meat Loaf fans but may have only heard the Bat Out of Hell album as rarely do they request songs from anything else that he has done. I wonder if it depresses Meat to think that he's virtually only known in US for tracks he recorded over twenty years ago or whether he's proud that people still remember it and want to hear it. Certainly it makes the band's job easier.

Tonight's concert started well with For Crying Out Loud which sounded so emotive as always and I really like those full background vocals! Next they sang DeadRinger for Love as someone asked a question about Cher and Meat revealed that she didn't wear any underwear when they filmed that video!

Next someone mentioned that his sister really liked Tom Brislin so she was allowed to lay on the piano for the next few songs! Meat also used her for the "On a Hot Summer Night" intro into You Took the Words Right Outta my Mouth! One of the original five piece "Meat Loaf Rochester Pops Choir" was a competition winner (all he'd had to do was to throw some pieces of Meat Loaf!) and he didn't even know the words of the chorus so Meat wrote them down for him! When the full choir came on stage, two little tots came on too and, again, they weren't afraid to sing, plus they knew the words! Again, the girl refused the marriage proposal from Meat!

Although it was another three hour long concert, there were only five audience-generated songs tonight and Meat didn't sing I'd Lie for You or Rock and Roll Dreams which I thought was such a shame as they really get the crowd going! It also meant that Ray (who today comes from Rochester!) had to stay on the shelf tonight! Unlike the last two concerts, the crowd sang part of Two Outta Three which I really like too!

The Paradise couple played their part well tonight but unfortunately the girl didn't even know the song so Meat had to tell her the "Stop Right There" part that she had to sing!

In the encore of All Revved Up Meat brought Kasim to the front of the stage and highlighted his guitar playing for quite a while (see the pictures below)! Kasim sounded really good tonight and his bass paying looked so effortless!

This was the one night of the tour that Kasim had facial hair
