The One Sure Thing

The opening act was Miga who played a great acoustic set and sang in various different languages. He had a bunch of his fans there but I noticed that they stayed for Kasim's set and were clapping along with the rest of us! Whilst Miga played the more intricate guitar chords, Kasim had the more obvious stage prescence and star quality.
Tonight Kasim reverted to launching straight into "I gave no promise or guarantee" rather than playing some guitar before the start of Don't Hold Me Back. Right from the applause he received from that song, I knew that it was a great Chicago audience! Kasim explained that he used to sing that song when he was in Utopia (massive cheers and applause) and that they never officially disbanded so maybe he still belongs in the band!
After Afraid Himself To Be and Set Me Free, Kasim sang Alone from the Deface The Music album before telling us that he and Tommy Hambridge decided to attempt to write a song for the new Meat Loaf album. As some Meat fans cheered at this point, Kasim joked that he couldn't understand why Meat rejected their song as it went like.... and then proceeded to sing the opening lines of Two Outta Three Ain't Bad! He then sang Sometimes Love Is A Dangerous Thing and, although most people probably didn't know it, some were clapping along!
Again tonight someone shouted out for Eternal Love so Kasim sang a few bars before There Goes my Inspiration which brought him massive applause and cheers. Kasim next told us the story about Roy Thomas Baker starting to produce his Kasim album but tonight extended it and told some extra details. He said that he was going to sing a song from it so I expected Just A Little Bit but instead he sang This Must Be Love (he does some amazing guitar playing in the middle of that!) before he did sing Just A Little Bit and followed it by Across The Universe which again brought loads of applause and cheers!
Kasim then said that he wanted to sing a Todd song as a tribute to him,and someone shouted out that "Only Kasim could sing a Todd song"!! Kasim played the opening bars of It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference and asked us if we knew which song it was yet - he then decided that the left hand side of the room recognised it but the right hand side didn't! During the song, people were clapping along but it was after he finished the song that an amazing thing happened as he received a standing ovation!! That was such a massive achievement with this audience that had so many Todd fans in it!
Kasim then left the stage briefly before he just HAD to return to sing his great The One Sure Thing! Again, although most people have probably never heard the song before, it was easy to see how well it was received!
What an amazing evening and I'm really looking forward to Kasim's next gig in Chicago!
