Club Cafe was a really smart looking venue which holds a weekly singer / songwriter show. It's hosted by Paul Tabachneck and the other singers were Norm Nardini (he was really hilarious and sang songs with titles such as Smoking Roaches and Butts and What The F@@k!) and Carol Lee Espy (IMO she had a great voice but I didn't like her style of music). The format was that they took turns to sing their own songs. Kasim was introduced as the "superstar of the evening"!

During the first round, the other artists had said that they all came from Pittsburgh so Kasim started by saying that he did NOT come from Pittsburgh before he sang his steady opener Don't Hold Me Back. In the next round Paul had sung a Nashville song so that led perfectly into Kasim singing Sometimes Love Is Dangerous Thing as Tommy Hambridge (the co-writer of the song) worked in Nashville.
During the next round the four of them spoke about other musicians so, Kasim explained that his next song comes across as a relationship song but actually is about getting out of a record contract - Set Me Free.
For some reason Kasim didn't do any intro before Before She Was Gone and the next song had a very brief introduction! The other three had sung songs about either death or dead people so Kasim just announced that he was going to sing about "a bunch of dead people" and sang There Goes My Inspiration! In the next round, again, Kasim didn't give any intro but just sang his brilliant new The One Sure Thing! (He's changed the arrangement slightly from Columbus.)

Next we had Kasim's second new song in four days - I'll Carry On! Kasim explained that before he got to Club Cafe he had it written but he wasn't too happy with one line in the chorus so Paul Tabachneck helped him out so it was now officially a Sulton / Tabachneck song! It's an upbeat song that Kasim plays on a tenor guitar and I think it's great! As he'd only just written it, Kasim had to read the words and as he couldn't see them too well, Paul held the sheets at one point! Although it wasn't a faultless performance, I think the audience appreciated hearing a brand new song!
For the last round of the evening, the format was that they sung cover songs so Kasim played his great version of Across The Universe which the others joined in with too!
It was then that virtually the whole audience started calling out for "one more"!! Paul stated that this had never happened before! He obviously wanted them to just play one more all together but the crowd wasn't having that as they called out that they wanted individual songs! As Kasim played the final song of the evening, he opted for The Beatles great Ticket To Ride which everybody sang along with which was wonderful to hear!
When I first heard that Kasim was going to be playing a singer / songwriter circle, I wasn't too keen on the idea but after that great show I'm really glad that he did as it was fascinating to see him with other musicians, plus he was obviously the favourite of the crowd!
