First held two years ago in downtown Philadelphia, the "102.9 WMGK Classic Rock Art Show" has been an instant hit in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Foundation. Over 125 pieces of original art, drawings, photographs, handwritten song lyrics, and lithographs from some of the world's greatest musicians and songwriters will be on display in a special gallery from November 15 through December 15, 2002, and available to the public for purchase via silent auction. Bids will be accepted throughout the event, with pieces going to the highest bidder and all proceeds from the art sales going directly to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation - the leading worldwide nonprofit organization dedicated to identifying, funding, and conducting pediatric HIV/AIDS research as well as promoting global education, awareness, and compassion about HIV/AIDS in children.
"On behalf of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, I want to express my thanks to the Greater Philadelphia Radio Group for choosing the Foundation to benefit from your exciting "102.9 WMGK Classic Rock Art Show" for the third year in a row," says External Events Manager Sherry Vrooman. "The proceeds raised for pediatric research as a result of the auctioning of sketches, lyrics, and memorabilia will be utilized in the most effective way possible to ensure a healthier future for children everywhere."
Kasim Sulton, who recently released a new solo album called "Quid Pro Quo" on Sphere Sound Records, contributed handwritten lyrics for Utopia's Top 30 hit "Set Me Free," (which he wrote and sang) for the gallery's "Poetry of Rock" display, an exhibit of handwritten, signed song lyrics. "I'm honored to be a part of this extremely worthwhile event," says Sulton. "To know that my contribution, along with all the other items donated by so many talented artists, will help raise money for HIV/AIDS research along with other serious and life-threatening diseases facing children is as important as it is exciting to be associated with." Additionally, Sulton will be a special guest at the Private VIP Celebrity and Press Preview of the show on November 14.
The "102.9 WMGK Classic Rock Art Show" opens to the public on Friday, November 15 and runs through Sunday, December 15 at The Shops At Liberty Place, 17th & Chestnut Streets, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
