Over the years, Kasim Sulton has laid down the groove in the studio and on the road as the bassist in Joan Jett's Blackhearts, Todd Rundgren's Utopia and Meatloaf's much heralded "Band Out of Hell."
The Staten Island singer/songwriter also has recorded, written and/or toured with the likes of Hall & Oates, Ronnie Spector, Shaun Cassidy, Patty Smyth, Richie Sambora, The Indigo Girls and Celine Dion, to name but a few.
For the first time in a decade, Sulton will be stepping up to the forefront with the release of his third solo album "Quid Pro Quo" (he previously released "Kasim" in 1982 and "The Bass-ment Tapes" in 1993).
Due in stores this month, "Quid Pro Quo," will contain 10 original Sulton songs and a cover of Harry Nilsson's "Remember."
Sulton defines his new album as "very much a pop record," with a focus on melody lines, chord changes, lyrics and overdubs. "I might be known as a bass player, but it's more important for me to get a song across, because it's a good tune as opposed to it having some amazing bass riff," he said.
Sulton will perform his one man show tonight The Front Porch, 505 E. Lincolnway, Valparaiso. Following his short U.S. solo tour, Sulton will join up with Meatloaf for a worldwide tour promoting that artist's new CD, "Testify."
