"Her parents turned her on to Utopia, and she became a fan of all the old Utopia records,'' explains Sulton, who'll perform with DeCotis again on Friday when he plays two shows at the Van Dyck in Schenectady.
"She's the most adorable 13-year-old girl, and she wants to be a musician. I've become friends with her whole family, and I showed her a few tricks on guitar. I thought to myself, 'Well, why don't I have her come up and play a song with me onstage?'
"She played 'One World' with me, and she did a great job.
"If I'm still doing this in another seven or eight years -- which I probably will -- then she can be my opening act.'' Sulton -- who is probably the only musician to record with both Patti Smith and Scandal's Patty Smyth -- spent most of his career playing bass. But lately, he's been venturing out on stages all by himself.
"It's a really entertaining evening,'' he says. "Just me, a guitar, the audience and some inside stories from my past and present.'' Expect to hear previews of Sulton's upcoming solo album, "Quid Pro Quo,'' which is slated for release next month.
