Kasim Sulton in Atlantic City - 9/08/01

This concert was sold out far sooner than the one on Friday night and apparently even people with complimentary tickets weren't sure until late if there would room for them! The queue when the doors opened was shorter though than the previous night and this time the (female) maitre d’ agreed to my request to be seated on the left (Kasim’s!) side of the hall.

Ten minutes late the band launched onto the stage with the great All Revved Up / Life Is A Lemon / Lawyers, Guns And Money opening! It certainly made everyone sit up! Tonight Meat’s microphone performed perfectly but unfortunately Meat didn’t as he really messed up Lawyers, Guns and Money! It was amusing to watch as he started off with the second verse and then got lost again later in the song so Kasim had to get him back on track! The band all wore black again tonight - Kasim had switched to a shirt.

Before You Took The Words Right Outta My Mouth, Meat announced that there was a lady in the front who shirred away every time he went near her so he sat on the stage and calmed her down! Later in the song they did the thing they’ve done on previous tours of getting the audience to sing and Meat managed to find someone near the front who wasn’t singing to make an example of! What made it more amusing on this occasion was that eventually the guy stood up and conducted the audience too!

We next had my memory provoking I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth) before Anything For Love (again with hardly a break after “screwing around”), followed by Paradise By The Dashboard Light. At the beginning of this, Kasim (and others in the band!) waved their hands in the air which was amusing to watch. The plot of Paradise was (unsurprisingly) the same as last night but, just as Patti was about to sing her “Stop right there!” line, she noticed that Meat had managed to break her belt which invoked a loud “Shit!” from her!

Kasim Sulton in Atlantic City - 9/08/01 The band then left the stage and surprisingly people actually stopped clapping but fortunately they returned for the elongated encore! It started with the great Rock And Roll Dreams (with a full Pearl / Kasim intro tonight). It also seemed to be a longer ending (maybe one of the longest I’ve seen) as Ray Andersen came off his shelf to play with Kasim and Damon La Scott for a while before Kasim also went right over to Damon’s side of the stage to play too.

Kasim Sulton in Atlantic City - 9/08/01 They then got the stools (or benches as Meat called them) out so Kasim went down and sat on his before being told by Meat to get up as he wanted to talk about the benches first! Previously Kasim had switched guitars for this slower part of the set. They sang Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad before doing “Stump The Band”. Amazingly(!) someone (not me!) asked for a Monkies song so Kasim sang Last Train To Clarksville (as he used to on the 1999 Greatest Hits Tour in Europe!) before they sang Honkey Tonk Woman (with Kasim singing the second verse again) and Meat asking Pearl to sing Mercedes Benz.

They then immediately went into the wonderful Bat Out Of Hell (Kasim went off stage and switched back to his black Specter bass after the intro) before leaving the stage to massive applause!

Another brilliant concert and roll on the Night Of The Proms Tour….!
