During my "holiday" this past week, the only real items of news was that Kasim's two forthcoming gigs at Borders in Florida have been cancelled. Fans have posted on various foroums that it was either due to "stomach flu" or "travel arrangements". Kasim himself made three posts in a message called "Floridas Double Whammy" about it. Click here to read them but, as in time they will disappear, they say:
"Hi All,
Unfortunately, I had to cancel both my Florida Borders appearances.
I appologize for any inconvenience this causes anyone who might have made plans to attend. Without going into details please know it was unavoidable.
Kasim
"
"Thanks Lou, The details aren't pretty anyway. "
"Laura,
My only hope is once Meat tours in 2003, Florida is in the plans. I'll make these appearances up then.
K
"
Unfortunately it appears that as one of the appearances was cancelled with less than 2 hours notice and it was only posted on that one board, several fans did go to the store. However they were apparently greeted with a note that cited "illness" as the reason for the cancellation and the offer of a free CD.

With immediate effect only items of real news (e.g. new gigs or appearances) with be posted in the News section of the site so that people who just wish to know the main facts about Kasim can read it in that section.

14.15 - There's a lovely post from someone who works at the Kids Against Cancer charity on a messageboard. Click here to view it.
13.00 - There was a post on a Meat Loaf mailing list that he had heard a rumor that Kasim Sulton will be playing solo in Chicago, IL on Saturday 8th February. Currently The Abbey Pub does not have anything listed for that date.
09.30 - And still the debate about the result of the E-Bay auction for Kasim Sulton's guitar on a Todd Rundgren messageboard continues....
04.45 - The Kasim Sulton Advent Calendar has been updated (with a plug!).
04.30 - Kasim Sulton sent a message to his mailing list about the Christmas holidays

12/23/02
18.45 - It's probably best to view this particular Blog item as an editorial comment. Kasim Sulton is now listed on the Cafe Carpe website. Click here to view it. At some point before the gig, the listing will be published in full on this site but the opening phrase is that dreadful "A highly coveted sideman, Sulton is recognized and respected the world over for his work with other artists". Compare that to the opening description of Paul Geremia who is playing there the following week: "One of the most respected acoustic blues musicians on the planet". Personally I don't have a clue who Paul Geremia is but if I was at a loose end on a Friday night in Fort Atkinson, and if I didn't know who either of them were, from the description above, I would certainly opt for "the most respected acoustic blues musicians on the planet" over the "sideman" who's only claim to fame appears from that particular description to be his work with other people! It's small wonder that Kasim has not received the press articles and audiences that he deserves with that description being repeated at every venue and in most interviews.
18.00 - The opening act for Kasim Sulton's set at Cafe Carpe on Friday 7th February 2003 has been confirmed as Jeff "Weavil" Gauss! Click here for details. Many thanks to Michele Kotlarsky for forwarding the link.
11.45 - The News section of the EPK part of the site has been updated.
07.00 - The News section of the site has been updated.
01.00 - If the Google.com translation from German is accurate, it appears that Kasim Sulton will be recording Wetten Dass on 25th January in Boblingen (where Kasim played an outdoor rock festival in 1997). Apparently all the tickets for this recording were allocated several months ago.
00.45 - The Kasim Sulton Advent Calendar has been updated with an old Christmas message from Kasim.

12/22/02
18.00 - There's some debate about the result of the E-Bay auction for Kasim Sulton's guitar on a Todd Rundgren messageboard.
11.15 - The webpages for the Borders store in Orlando has been updated with the details of Kasim's appearance there next week. Click here and here to view them. The first page is fine as it says:
"Kasim Sulton
January 2, 2003 12:00 PM
Winter Park, FL
Solo acoustic guitar, Quid Pro Quo Singer/songwriter Kasim Sulton is stepping into the spotlight with a new CD, Quid Pro Quo.
"
Unfortunately the detailed page uses that dreadful S&M description of him:
"Kasim Sulton
Solo acoustic guitar, Quid Pro Quo Singer/songwriter Kasim Sulton is stepping into the spotlight with a new CD, Quid Pro Quo. A highly coveted sideman, Sulton is recognized and respected the world over for his work with other artists, including Todd Rundgren and Utopia, Meat Loaf, Joan Jett, Hall & Oates, Mick Jagger and Celine Dion to name just a few. Why not take a long lunch this Thursday and come to our cafe for a mini-concert and autograph session?
"
Click here to e-mail Borders with your views of their description of Kasim.

15.45 - A review and an MP3 of Kasim's bass playing has been added to the Cedar Rapids page in the Meat Loaf Winter Tour section of the site. Many thanks to Julie Buckaloo for providing these.
10.45 - Click here for a very thorough review of the Meat Loaf concert in Cedar Rapids by Jules Buck (it contains some nice Kasim mentions).
08.30 - Quid Pro Quo is now available on Amazon.com and CDNow.com (who are basically one and the same). Click here to see the link. The price is $18.98 (or $16 including postage if bought direct from Sphere Sound Records) or there is an option to buy a used copy for $17.04. The description of Quid Pro Quo is:
"Product Details

18.00 - Well, it was rather a disappointing end to the auction of a copy of Quid Pro Quo and the Kasim Sulton Autographed 2002 Jet Black Bison Bass Guitar as no new bids were placed. Congratulations to c5convert for having the highest bid of $510. The page counter did race a far bit though with currently 434 hits on it.
17.00 - With only one hour remaining, the auction of a copy of Quid Pro Quo and the Kasim Sulton Autographed 2002 Jet Black Bison Bass Guitar is still at $510 with c5convert having the highest bid - let's hope there's a fury of bids in the last hour so that more money is donated to the to Kids Against Cancer charity that Kasim supports. There's already been over 400 hits on the page.
14.00 - Unfortunately, due to Senator Lott's decision to step down as majority leader, Kasim's appearance on the 4 o'clock show on the TV station WLOX which was rearranged from yesterday to today has now been cancelled.

12.15 - Some photos of Kasim Sulton at the Meat Loaf concert in Wilkes Barre, PA have been added to the Photos section of the site (there's also a link to a page of photos of Meat Loaf and Patti Russo off that page). Many thanks to Frank Ciapanna for allowing the photos to be posted on this site.

14.30 - Kasim Sulton has made another post to the messageboard attached to KasimSulton.com in a post called "EBAY Item for the Interested". As it will disappear in time it says:
"Hey Guys,

17.45 - Click here for a MP3 of part of Meat Loaf's new single Did I Say That. Unfortunately the sound quality is not very good but Kasim's background vocals can just about be made out (although the bass sounds distorted).
16.15 - Click here for the link to the online Meat Loaf concert review with the great quote of "Veteran musical journeyman Kasim Sultan is serving as musical director/bassist for the tour and played a few songs as opening act. The talented Sultan is in support of his latest solo effort, "Quid Quo Pro" and was a great coup for Meat Loaf to include on the tour." as posted in this Blog on 11th December. The "news article" came from The Citizen's Voice.

12/16/02
18.00 - Quid Pro Quo is now listed on TheOrchard.com (although the CD has not yet made its way through to Amazon and CDNow). Click here to see the listing. Under "Artist Info" for Kasim it says: "Kasim Sulton is the legendary session man/songwriter/bassist and vocalist of Todd Rundgren and Utopia. Out on his own with his second solo recording, Quid Pro Quo. Sulton is one of rockís most in-demand and finest voices. Artist ID: sul7 " It's interesting that on this site Quid Pro Quo is listed as Kasim's second solo recording but please note that Kasim was NEVER a session man for Utopia! Under "Discography" it says "Quid Pro Quo Upc: 803680236529 Released: December 10, 2002 List Price: 17.97 Label: Sphere Sound Records 10 masterly crafted songs on the Sphere Sound Records Label. This limited edition CD features Kasim on all instruments. All but two of the songs were penned by Sulton. Contains artwork and music that will not appear on future pressings." It then lists the tracks on the album.
16.00 - The Rock Art Show auction website has been updated with the final bids. The hand written lyrics to Set Me Free went for $200. Click here to view it. The auction was in aid of The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
14.00 - Kasim has made another post on the messageboard attached to KasimSulton.com. As it will disappear in time it says:
"Slight dilemma here.
JazzieCazzie DID guess correctly even though she added Jim Stienman. All I said was name the band I didn't say you couldn't ADD musicians.
Stephanie was the second correct guess.
I've decided to send the Poster to JazzieCazzie and send a small consolation prize to Stephanie.
"
12.30 - The News section of the site has been updated (with photos).
10.45 - Considering that the Meat Loaf Winter Tour is into its second half, there have been VERY few reviews about the concerts on the Internet. There are 2 brief ones that mention Kasim Sulton on the messageboard attached to one of the Meat Loaf fan clubs. Click here for someone who didn't like the entire concert at all and here for someone who was very impressed with Kasim (even though he couldn't hear him too well! As it will disappear in time, it says:
"This was a great show. I was surprised by and enjoyed the performance from Kasim Sultan, I'm definately going to have to pick up his new CD"
02.00 - Kasim Sulton's set list for his show last night in Toledo has been added to the Meat Loaf Winter Tour section of the site or click here for the direct link. Many thanks to David M. Driskell for forwarding this.
01.45 - The Rock Art Show auction for the hand written lyrics to Set Me Free ended yesterday but it appears that the site has not yet been updated. It is now known that there was at least one bid on it for $125. Click here to view it.
01.30 - The opening price this morning for the auction of a copy of Quid Pro Quo and the Kasim Sulton Autographed 2002 Jet Black Bison Bass Guitar is still $310 after 9 bids. Any changes during the day will be posted on the front page of this site.

11.45 - David M. Driskell has already made one of his great banners for Kasim's online "mini journal"! Click here to view it.
11.15 - Kasim has posted his final question for winning an EMI Kasim poster. Under the topic "LAST QUESTION FOR THE ALL KNOWING", the post says:
"OK Guys. I'm Out of Posters.
Thought I had more but turns out I only had 10 and I must keep one for my Grandkids.... ( it'll make a good show-and-tell item).
Heres the 9th and final question....
I appeared on Saturday Night Live once. Playing with Todd when his Healing solo album was released.
Name all the members of the band, including the background singers, that performed on that show and the last Poster is yours.
"
Click here to read the actual post and answer the question.

09.15 - There is a new message from Kasim Sulton on the opening page of his official website KasimSulton.com. In it Kasim says that he will be keeping a "mini journal" of the promotion of Meat Loaf's new CD which is bound to get loads of Meat Loaf fans even more interested in Kasim and his career!

Any changes during the day will be posted on the front page of this site. The auction has only 5 days left to run for this $799 guitar which also includes a gig bag, blank warranty card (apparently Kasim never filled it out), instructions and the original output cord still sealed in plastic. (The cord is the one that will connect the bass to any amplifier.)

09.30 - There have been very few fan reviews of concerts on the Meat Loaf Winter Tour so far. To date, even the website for the Official Meat Loaf Fan Club do not have any. However they have posted some more photos by Gary "Goat" Govia from Rocktoberfest in Florida. Click here to view them but the ones that contain Kasim are:
Kasim smiling
In the dark
Looking at Meat
Kasim singing
Kasim smiling again!
Many thanks to the kind person who told me about these photos.
08.15 - There's a mention of Kasim on the Newswire section of The Mechanism (Kasim's new website designers) website. Click here to view it but, as it it may disappear in time, it says:
"The Mechanism tapped by Kasim Sulton for his new website
The Mechanism has begun a collective engagement with Kasim Sulton, the legendary musician who has performed extensively with Todd Rundgren, Hall & Oates, Meat Loaf, Joan Jett and others on designing and producing his new website.
"
06.15 - Kasim has posted another message on the messageboard attached to KasimSulton.com in the topic "Question #8". As it will disappear in time it says:
"And we have another winner....
Bon posted the correct answer RIGHT under the question!
Scotch and Water.
You guys know WAY too much.
"
05.15 - Kasim's official website KasimSulton.com has a new layout. There's no new content on the site (yet!) but it has a far more professional look to it. Compare the two - old and new.
05.00 - A reminder that the Rock Art Show auction for the hand written lyrics to Set Me Free ends tomorrow. There are currently either no bids on it or just the one opening bid (the site doesn't make it clear). Click here to view it.

DANCER WEDS SKILL
Reckless and Wild

04.00 - The opening price this morning for the auction of a copy of Quid Pro Quo and the Kasim Sulton Autographed 2002 Jet Black Bison Bass Guitar is still $310 after 9 bids. Any changes during the day will be posted on the front page of this site.

12/12/02
18.45 - Some photos and a review (more an interview!) have been added to the Kasim Sulton at Borders, Dearborn, MI page of the site.
18.15 - Click here for some new photos of the autographed guitar that is available on the E-Bay auction.
16.45 - Thanks to some pushing by Jennifer Salyer(!), Kasim receives a mention in an article about Meat Loaf on the Siouxland.net website about the show next Tuesday.Click here to read it but the Kasim mention is:
"Apparently ready to blow off some steam, Meat has enlisted the help of his long time band mates, including Patti Russo and Kasim Sulton for the Just Havin' Fun For The Holidays Tour."
15.15 - The Kasim Sulton at Borders, Westbury page of the site has been updated with some photos.
13.45 - Meat Loaf's European record company's (Polydor) website has been updated with the news that the first single from the album Did I Say That will be released now on 27th January and the album Couldn't Have Said It Better will be released on 3rd March (both feature Kasim playing bass and singing background vocals). I had a slight dilemma about whether to post the next part or not but everything is subject to change. According to the same website, Meat will "probably" appear on the German TV shows WETTEN, DASS...? on 25th January and on Top Of The Pops on 8th February. This latter date clashes with Kasim's planned gigs in the Midwest but currently it is not known whether the dates of the TV shows will change or whether it may only be Meat Loaf (and not Kasim) on them or whether they will be recorded in advance.
13.30 - The News section of the site has been updated (with photo).
12.00 - The Kasim Sulton Advent Calendar has been updated with some more anagrams - they are all songs from either Kasim, Lights On, The Basement Tapes or Quid Pro Quo. As someone pointed out that the day numbers are easy to find (due to the others all linking to the opening page of this site which is usually in your cache so is a different color), the other days now link to different sites, some related to Kasim amd some not.
11.30 - Two more posts were made by Kasim on the messageboard attached to KasimSulton.com. Click here to view the one on the post called "Queston #7" which says:
"OK Everyone, lets hear it for FRANK!
The winner with the correct guess of 49!
P.S. The Van Dyke shows were counted separatly because you needed tickets for both shows.
"
(Although some fans are questioning the calculation and definition of "solo shows" Kasim's word is final!)
And click here to view the one on the post called "Queston #8" which says:
"What was the drink Paul McCartney asked me to get for him at the Knebworth Festival in England?"
10.00 - A late start to the updates today (and there are loads to add!) but the opening price this morning for the auction of a copy of Quid Pro Quo and the Kasim Sulton Autographed 2002 Jet Black Bison Bass Guitar is $310 after 9 bids.

12.15 - With nine days still to go the auction of a copy of Quid Pro Quo and the Kasim Sulton Autographed 2002 Jet Black Bison Bass Guitar is already hotting up! An hour ago the highest bid was $127.50 with 2 bids, now it's $255 after 7 bids! As fast as I can keep up with it, the current total is being posted on the opening page of this site.
11.00 - Many thanks to David M. Driskell for forwarding this "news article" about the Wilkes Barre concert - check out the penultimate paragraph:
"This was a good ol' fashion rock show. Very quick opening act(s), long versions of songs and all starring a pop music legend bigger than life. There could only be one person still doing it up that way, right? Yep, Meat Loaf was in town.
Architect of one of the best selling albums in history (Bat Out Of Hell), Marvin Lee Aday brought his full band to town Monday night and rocked the sold-out F.M. Kirby Center with a three-hour nonstop musical express that never came up once for air.
Known for his elongated verions of songs and eccentric stage histrionics, Meat Loaf didn't disappoint Monday evening as he showed a much different version of the rock star that passed through town last in support of the VH1 Storyteller's tour.
Much different indeed.
Monday's concert showed a return to yesteryear of sorts for the Rocky Horor cult star-turned-crooner. Meat Loaf cooked up new versions of his standards and the crowd devoured them.
"All Revved Up With No Place To Go," "Anything For Love" and his late 1970's teen sex anthem, "Paradise By a Dashboard Light" all found a singer not bored with singing them any more. And yes, he did fall into that rut for quite a while. On Monday evening, he roamed the stage like he did in the late 1970's with Ellen Foley and the oxygen tanks used to be close by.
Ever since the Texas native hooked up with Jim Steinman, there's been no looking back. Every time rock is ready to count him out, the sometimes psychotic, always unpredictable, entertainer reinvents himself. From Bat Out Of Hell II" to "VH1 Storytellers," Meat Loaf always seems to climb back up pop's charts.
After a rousing opening rendition of "Life Is A Lemon" ("And I Want My Money Back") and "Mercury," Meat did a wonderful tribute to his good friend Warren Zevon, who is in the midst of his widely publicized battle against cancer.
"Lawyers, Guns & Money" would have made the Canadian rocker proud.
Backed by an excellent five-piece band and two female backing vocalists (doubling as percussionists also), Meat Loaf stormed through many of the songs looking like he just exited a sauna when it was in fact twenty degrees outside.
His sweat-soaked body slumped over on more than one occasion grasping the microphone and some air, only to erupt by running the stage from side to side like a runaway freight train. His flirtatious interplay with one of the girls seemed a bit lame and overdone, but still vintage Meat Loaf.
Veteran musical journeyman Kasim Sultan is serving as musical director/bassist for the tour and played a few songs as opening act. The talented Sultan is in support of his latest solo effort, "Quid Quo Pro" and was a great coup for Meat Loaf to include on the tour.
Whether he is able to sustain his posture as the Texas madman on stage each night for the long haul remains to be scene. For now though, Meat Loaf came to town to please on Monday and he certainly did that without a doubt.
"
What great descriptions of Kasim as "Veteran musical journeyman", "talented" and "was a great coup for Meat Loaf to include on the tour"!
10.30 - The answers to the cryptic descriptions of Kasim Sulton songs that were posted on Saturday in the Kasim Sulton Advent Calendar are:

Mixed Signals

We The People
Prefer the dark
Rather Be Blind
03.45 - Although it's only had one bid so far, the page for the auction of a copy of Quid Pro Quo and the Kasim Sulton Autographed 2002 Jet Black Bison Bass Guitar has already had 39 hits. The auction still has 9 days still to run. The Rock Art Show auction for the hand written lyrics to Set Me Free only has 4 days left to run and there are either no bids on it or just the one opening bid (the site doesn't make it clear). Click here to view it.
03.30 - Maybe it's because you all missed KasimInfo.com so much on Monday(!) but yesterday there were 1,033 page hits on the site....and hardly anything was updated!

15.15 - There's a new interview with Kasim Sulton on the Golden Earring website. Golden Earing are a band from Holland who have been playing together for years. To view it, click here and follow the pop-up box to Interactive and then Interviews.
14.45 - Kasim Sulton has made two more posts on the messageboard attached to KasimSulton.com. Click here and here to view them but, as they disappear after a while, they say:
"We have a winner,
Marilyn was the first to post the correct chart position.
#27 on March 29th, 1980.
Congrats Marilyn!
"
and
"Exactly how many SOLO shows have I performed since April 2001 up to and including November 2002?
Remember... SOLO SHOWS ONLY
"
12.15 - The News section of the site has been updated.
12.00 - The main points of the online chat with Kasim on Sunday has been added to the site. Click here for the direct link.
05.45 - The Kasim Sulton Advent Calendar has been updated for today (what a shame that the site was down yesterday as that was the day that the interesting fact about Kasim and kangaroos was due to be posted!). As requested the pages for the weekend have been left up until tomorrow for those with only Internet access at work.
05.30 - KasimInfo.com is back online! Due to the domain name company not sending renewal notices, the domain name expired which meant that the site went down. The name has been re-purchased, the next renewal date is marked in my diary and the (ab)normal number of updates of a site will continue.

13.45 - Another review of the Meat Loaf concert in Cleveland and one of Kasim's appearance in the city at Borders has been added to the Meat Loaf Winter Tour section of the site or click here for the direct link. Many thanks to Terry and Jules for forwarding it.
13.00 - David M. Driskell has made a great banner about the Kasim Sulton chat tonight. Click here to view it.
11.30 - The News section of the site has been updated.
09.30 - Set lists have been added for some of the Meat Loaf and Kasim Sulton gigs / appearances. Click here and here to view them.
08.00 - Click here for a brief review of Kasim Sulton's appearance at Borders in Westbury yesterday.
07.45 - At the request of someone who only has Internet access at work, the Kasim Sulton Advent Calendar pages for the weekends will be left up until Tuesday.
07.30 - Sphere Sound Records have upload some technical specifications about the Kasim Sulton Autographed 2002 Jet Black Bison Bass Guitar that the highest bidder on a copy of Quid Pro Quo will win. Click here for more details of the guitar, here for the technical specifications for guitar players and here for non guitar players. The auction starts on Tuesday.
07.00 - As both the news and the front page of this site keep changing, I'll copy in the current word from "the Meat Loaf camp" as it will affect both Kasim and his fans due to the fact that he is expected to be very heavily involved in both the promotion and the touring of Meat Loaf's new album during almost the whole of 2003:
"Meat Loaf's new album will be called (I) Couldn't Have Said It Better (Myself) and is now scheduled for a release date of anywhere from late February to 3rd April, depending on which article you read! The first single "Did I Say That? will be released in Germany first on Polydor Records (it is currently not known whether this is the song that features Todd Rundgren too). The single has a radio release date in Germany of 16th December and a sale release date of 20th January. Currently Meat Loaf does not have a signed record contract in US so there are no dates yet for any American releases."
Meat Loaf's new album was originally going to be called Funhouse but this was then changed to Testify. It is assumed that this latter name was dropped when Phil Collins released an album of the same name.
06.30 - Kasim Sulton has posted question #6 for a copy of the EMI Kasim poster. Click here to view it (the topic title is "QUESTION #6 ( probably the easiest )") but, as it will disappear after the event, it says:
"OK kids.....
What was the highest Billboard Singles chart positon that 'Set Me Free' acheived?
"
The answer is on KasimInfo.com

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KASIM SULTON!!
Today is Kasim's 47th birthday
(although he still looks younger than 35!)

12/07/02
19.30 - Please note that on the Kasim Sulton Advent Calendar today "Touch my chest" is NOT Where Is My Soul as a few people thought!
19.15 - Some photos of Kasim's guitar that Sphere Sound Records are giving to the highest bidder on a copy of Quid Pro Quo has now been added to their website. Click here for the direct link. Also on that page is part of an e-mail from Scot Van Dusen to Kasim. After the letter is a lovely quote about Kasim:
"In the last year, I have seen a man grow as a songwriter and performer. Understand that this is coming from an afficianado who has ALWAYS felt his talents were unequalled !
How does the creme de la creme get any better ?
"
16.45 - The front page of the Sphere Sound Records website has been updated with news about how to win a genuine "Kasim Sulton AUTOGRAPHED 2002 Jet Black Burn Bison Bass Guitar"! All you have to do is to be the highest bidder on E-Bay for an autographed copy of Kasim's Quid Pro Quo - the auctions starts on Tuesday.
16.15 - Things are looking better! With just over one hour to go, the current bid for a second hand copy of Quid Pro Quo is now up to $10. Click here to bid.
15.30 - Just a personal note that if anyone sent any mail to my SueW@KasimInfo.com account since 11.00am this morning, please resend it as the mail account was down (the site quota of 600MB has been filled so lots of files will have to be switched to the KasimInfo.co.uk account tomorrow).
07.15 - Yesterday on the messageboard attached to KasimSulton.com there were exactly 100 posts! As one topic alone was viewed over 600 times, it's impossible to guess how many page views there were!
05.30 - The This Day feature of the site has been temporarily removed.
05.00 - Kasim Sulton has posted two more messages on the messageboard attached to KasimSulton.com. Click here to read them but, as in time they will disappear, they say:
"We have a winner!
Jan ( with eight posts to her credit ) has won the 6th Poster.
Next question will be MUCH tougher.
"
and
"CORRECTION!
Jan has won the FIFTH Poster.
The answer was June and July of 1986.
