Blog05 (03/31/01 - 04/12/01)

04/12/01
17.00 - Kasim received a mention on a Todd Rundgren Yahoo Message Board: "Kasim is an awesome bassist and has played for NUMEROUS other bands. I saw him when Meat Loaf toured. He still tours with Todd and HE sings Trapped, which is my fav Utopia song! He looks like a kid and is still a cutie"
10.45 - I placed the following two messages on the front page of the site:
"An Apology:
From June until December 2000, Kirsten C. Ashley sent me 118 photos of Kasim Sulton to use on my website. These shots were taken from various TV shows and videos. On 10th April 2001, Kirsten C. Ashley instructed me to withdraw these from my website as she was the owner or that they "clearly violate the copyright information outlined on KasimOnLine.com". I have now discovered that Kirsten C. Ashley was never the legal owner of these copyrights as they always belonged to the relevent TV companies.
I have now removed all the offending photos and I would like to apologise fully for any copyright infringement I may have breeched through receiving this incorrect information.
Advance Notice:
For legal reasons I will be removing all or certain parts of the "Kasim's Messages" section of this website on Tuesday 17th April 2001 (when I return from New York). As these messages form a part of Kasim History / Folklore, I would strongly advise all fans to view them while they are still on the site.
Also on that date, I will be removing all logos and links to KasimOnLine.com as I have been instructed by Kirsten C. Ashley.
08.00 - Overnight (for me!) there were some more posts on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board about the surprise guest and Kasim Sulton's forthcoming show in Columbus.

04/11/01
23.00 - There were an impressive eleven posts today on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board about the surprise guest this coming Saturday and a video clip of part of Kasim's gig at the Arlene Grocery!
05.00 - As somebody on a Todd Rundgren Yahoo Message Board was bemoaning the fact that Todd was not touring in Ohio this year, I took the opportunity to advertise the fact that Kasim Sulton will be! There were two responses overnight: "Kasim in Columbus! I'm there! " and "Now, let me say I LOVE Kasim. He and Todd are well preserved and I always thought Kasim was an awesome guitarist. He was my fav, after Todd of course. He could make any crowd eat out of his hand with just a smile. I was in the first rows of their last Power Trio Tour and they all looked and sounded great. Kasim chewed gum like crazy and I thought that was too funny! Anyways, Kasim would be great to see in concert!!"

04/10/01
20.00 - There were some more messages posted on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board about a surprise guest who will be performing a duet with Kasim at his gig this coming Saturday and someone posted a link to some video clips of Kasim's gig last Saturday!
19.45 - There were a couple of Kasim Sulton mentions in a post to a Todd Rundgren Yahoo board: "My first concert was here in Columbus, it was a live broadcast, from the Ohio State Fair, that was being sent out through a cable company, and it was the first interactive concert where the at home audience voted on which song to play next, I was hooked, and have gone to every Cols, or Ohio show I could catch since, probably my favorite show was the Utopia show when they were opening for The Tubes, we met Kasim the night before, at the Cols. Agora, at a Billy Crystal show, he and Willy, and the guys from The Tubes were there, and Kasim then put us on the guest list for the next night for their show, how exciting! I am a whimp tho' and went backstage that night, froze when I saw Todd, and never did get autographs that night."
19.30 - According to The Bitter End, Kasim Sulton's gig there this Saturday will be advertised in The Village Voice, The Aquarian Weekly, Time Out NY and The New York Press!
19.00 - I (belatedly) added the News page for 7th April (about Kasim's gig at Arlene Grocery) and I added Kasim Sulton's message about the gig to the Kasim's messages section of the site.
06.00 - Today I added the great news to the site about Kasim Sulton's new gig in Cincinnati on 14th June 2001!!

04/09/01
23.55 - Today there were some more messages posted on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board about Kasim's great gig yesterday!

06.00 - Some dark photos of Kasim Sulton's gig at Arlene Grocery on Saturday were added to the site KasimOnLine.com.

04/08/01
23.55 - Today there were some more messages posted on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board about Kasim's great gig yesterday!
23.50 - There was a great review of the Arlene Grocery gig added to the KasimSulton.com Message Board.
14.00 - Kasim Sulton posted a new message on the front page of his official website KasimSulton.com saying how much he enjoyed last night!
13.15 - There was another brief (good) review with the set list posted to a Todd Rundgren mailing list: "Kasim performed:

  • Don't Hold Me Back (from The Basement Tapes)
  • Afraid Myself To Be (Jason Falkner)
  • Before She Was Gone (new, you can hear clips of that on Kasiminfo.com...unbelievably beautiful song)
  • Sometimes Love Is A Dangerous Thing (new)
  • Just A Little Bit (from his first album, Kasim)
  • a fabulous version of Set Me Free. Funny watching him up there singing that and picturing the geeky little kid with the Dorothy Hamill haircut in the video.
  • Across the Universe ( many audible sniffles in the crowd )
  • Unplanned encore: It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference which was basically a sing-along.
Yes, he has the gift of gab, yes he had the crowd eating out of his hand. We all knew he had the talent, but now we know he has the charisma as well. It was a great show. Kasim got a good crowd, lots of recognizable faces from local Todd shows; Next week's show at Bitter End should be killer. He gets to do two more songs for that one too."
12.30 - Kasim received a brief mention on the Audities mailing list about a SWAG gig: "We also spent some time with Doug Powell prior to the show, talking about the Jeff Lynne tribute. This one is gonna knock socks! Doug told us about Earl Slick calling, wanting to do a track for the aforementioned tribute with Robin Zander and Kasim Sulton as part of it. (And Doug's gonna say "no?"...I don't think so.)"
11.45 - Someone sent a brief review to a Todd Rundgren mailing list about Kasim's great gig last night: "Kasim was GREAT he was in great voice and did a song that I turned him onto three years ago and fell in love with it then called "Afraid of himself" by Jason Falkner and he did a wonderful job with it. I video taped the whole show which I will view this morning and give you a better overview of the show in detail, he has the gift for gab as some of you might know. I am not good at reviews but will post what he performed later."

04/07/01 - Kasim's first solo gig !!!!
23.55 - Today there was only one message posted on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board. It was to say how much someone enjoyed the gig and contained a link to three great photos of Kasim at the gig!!
20.00 - Kasim Sulton played his first solo gig to a very enthusastic crowd at Arlene Grocery!!! Set list, review and photos to be added to this site later.

04/06/01 - One Day until Kasim's first solo gig !!!!
23.55 - Today there were only two messages posted on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board, mainly about how quiet it was the day before Kasim's gig at Arlene Grocery!
08.00 - Kasim Sulton received mentions in a couple of posts on a Meat Loaf mailing list: "Did you notice, in the interview with Kasim in reference to "loafing" around with Meat he said, "there's been a lull in the action, probably a very long lull". I hope he's wrong...." and the second post in response was: "I think Kasim, as the rest of the band, has been waiting to record the new album for a while. I think it was supposed to be completeld or gone further along then it has been."
05.10 - There was a post on a Meat Loaf mailing list that mentioned Kasim Sulton: "Greetings all, I would like to obtain some pictures with autographs from Meat Loaf and specially from Kasim, do you have an idea how I can obtain them? It would be great to have a autographed picture from my influence: Kasim, and of course Meat Loaf."
05.00 - KasimInfo.com received official confirmation that Blue van Gogh will be the support act for Kasim's gig at The Saint, Asbury Park, NJ on 4th May! Blue van Gogh consists of Ray Andersen (who plays keyboards alongside Kasim in Meat Loaf's band The Neverland Express and his wife, Patti Maloney (who shared Kasim's microphone for part of the Millennium concert!).

04/05/01 - Two Days until Kasim's first solo gig !!!!
23.55 - Today there were ten messages posted on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board, about the Kasim interview and what to wear at Arlene Grocery! There was also a message posted on the KasimSulton.com Message Board about hoping that Kasim plays in Florida.
21.00 - The response posted on the Meat Loaf mailing list to the post below was: "Kasim certainly is in the movie Roadie!! In Roadie, Alice Cooper's band consists of Kasim Sulton, Roger Powell and Willie Wilcox (plus one other) who were all in the group Utopia at that time. Utopia were the musicians who played on Meat's album Bat Out Of Hell (Todd Rundgren was the other member of Utopia but he wasn't in the movie). Kasim can be seen in three scenes in the movie: 1) on stage at the rehearsal, when Meat has fixed the sound using potatoes, 2) on stage at the concert (wearing a very bright pink jacket!) and 3) in the dressing room scene, ad-libbing to Alice Cooper (although it's hard to distinguish what he actually says)."
20.30 - There was a post mentioning Kasim Sulton on a Meat Loaf mailing list: "I just realized something - Kasim is the bass player in Alice Cooper's band! I didn't see any good shots of his face that would have made me recognize him but when the credits were rolling, there he was - well, his name anyway so I backed up and sure enough..."
20.00 - Although not officially confirmed yet, KasimInfo.com has been informed that the support act for Kasim Sulton's gig in Asbury Park, NJ on 4th May will be Blue Van Gogh. One half of this duo is Ray Andersen who plays alongside Kasim in Meat Loaf's band, The Neverland Express! Many thanks to Miriam Yaffa Oberstein for this information.
08.00 - There was a great "don't tell Kasim" post on a Todd Rundgren mailing list: "The one and only time I saw Kasim live -- sshhh, don't tell him -- my best friend and I drank far too much Fosters and stole -- I mean borrowed -- his microphone. This was after sneaking backstage at The Chance and making total fools of ourselves talking to Roger. Not a shining moment, and since I lost the microphone, I can't give it back!"
07.00 - Overnight (for me) there were a few posts on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board about the great interview with Kasim by Mandy Strunk and the proposed chat to coincide with Kasim's appearance on The Electric Ballroom.

04/04/01 - Three Days until Kasim's first solo gig !!!!
20.00 - There's an absolutely amazing mess on the UBL page for Kasim Sulton!! Click here to see it but it's all about his "official" websites! The site lists KasimSulton.com as "The Official Kasim Sulton WWW Site" and then lists KasimOnLine.com as "The ORIGINAL Official Kasim Sulton Website!! It appears that Kasim Sulton is one artist who has more sites that claim they are official than sites that don't make that claim!
17.30 - There was a post (that may or may not affect Kasim Sulton) from the Meat Loaf UK Fan Club to say that it had heard directly from Meat Loaf's management company Left Bank that "Meat begins tracking a few songs in the studio next week" and "hopefully the next few months will be focused on recording material for the new album".
17.00 - There were some posts on a Todd Rundgren mailing list that the link to download the MP3 file of Kasim's new (old) song I Wanna Be Who I Am was not working. Somebody else posted that the solution seems to be to get it from the MP3 website. Click here for the direct link.
05.00 - As a lot of people will be listening to Kasim's performance on The Electric Ballroom on Sunday 22nd April via the Internet, I thought that it would provide the perfect excuse for some of us fans to get together for an on-line chat during that time. What has been suggested is that we meet in the Yahoo Chatroom on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board (access via the front page). It is possible to voice chat in the room but I propose that we don't do that so that we can all listen to Kasim!! As sometimes you have to download additional software to access the chatroom, it's an idea to attempt to get in sometime before THE day, otherwise I'll see you there on 4/22 at 10.00pm EST, 5.00pm Pacific, 3.00am UK, 4.00am Germany!
04.45 - I reduced the size of this Blog page again by moving the items prior to April 2001 to another page.
04.30 - I added to Kasim's Solo Gigs page for 7th April the news that children are allowed into Arlene Grocery providing that they are accompanied. Many thanks to Frank Ciapanna for passing on this information.
04.15 - For those in New York, Arlene Grocery has advised me that Kasim's gig this coming Saturday is advertised in Time Out and The Village Voice!
04.00 - The website for The Bitter End finally lists Kasim Sulton's appearance there on 14th April! Click here to read it.

04/03/01 - Four Days until Kasim's first solo gig !!!!
23.55 - There were some posts on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board about Kasim's TV appearances and his new official website. Unfortunately several people reported having problems posting to Yahoo today.
23.50 - There were only four new messages today on the Messageboard on KasimSulton.com (all about the site itself), however there were about 200 page views! 22.00 - I added the new opening message from Kasim that is on KasimSulton.com to the Kasim's Messages section of this site.
07.00 - Kasim Sulton's NEW Official website KasimSulton.com opened today!! There are Kasim Desktop Themes and Screen Savers and an Unreleased song I Wanna Be Who I Am from 1977 which is downloadable as an MP3! I added the news to the News section of this site and to the front page

04/02/01 - Five Days until Kasim's first solo gig !!!!
23.55 - Despite having problems posting messages there were a massive twenty four posts on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board over several different topics, including where people would like to see Kasim play and his TV appearances.
15.00 - There is a fascinating interview with Kasim Sulton on the Mandy Strunk website. It must be one of the longest interviews that Kasim has given. The link is on the Kasim in Print section of the site and on the front page (which I also re-vamped).
08.30 - Already so far today there have been a lot of great posts on the Kasim Sulton Yahoo Message Board about where people would like to see Kasim Sulton play gigs!
05.30 - To prevent complacency, I switched the cards around again on the Kasim Sulton Card game!
