Comments about this gig posted on messageboards and mailing lists include:

  • Meat and the band were just superb, throughout.
  • Tonight, however, was in stark contract. Whilst still not on full form (and by that I mean that he was unable to hold to long notes) the quality we have, over the years, come to expect from Meat Loaf was delivered in grand style.
  • Meat was in great form voice was amazing!! Loved every minute of it!
  • North Norfolk rocked like a bat out of hell last night as Meat Loaf wowed a capacity Blickling Hall audience. The scene was set perfectly as fans picnicked around the picturesque lakeside setting and the glorious sunshine helped fuel a buzzing atmosphere. Then just after 8.30pm the larger than life American rocker, dressed all in black, burst on stage surrounded by a gaggle of leather-clad electric guitarists and backing singers.
  • Before Hurricane Party played they explained that their rhythm guitarist had been run over by a Land Rover while he was sunbathing and that their manager would be playing instead from the wings. Johnny came back from hospital during the set (he had a broken arm) and received a massive round of applause as he still sang on stage!
  • I felt sorry for the people who had paid $400 for a platinum package as because they were running late, they couldn't get their guaranteed spot in front of the stage so they had to stand on the side of the stage so had a dreadful view of mainly Meat Loaf and Paul Crook's backs! I'd have been annoyed too if I'd paid $400 and only seen that! At least Kasim seemed to feel sorry for them and went over to them once or twice.
  • A long summer tour of his soaring harmonies seemed to have taken its toll on the singer's booming tenor voice, but his excellent band and backing vocalists carried him through admirably.
  • Despite nearly 30 years of tireless touring and performing, Mr Loaf still gives it 110 per cent on stage with the same energy and passion.
  • The funniest comment I heard all evening was when Kasim walked on stage and the lady behind me exclaimed "Cor! He's a bit of alright!"

Kasim described this concert as "We played the last of the Stately Homes concert series this weekend. It wasn't without some drama as well. One of the Guitarists from the opening band, Hurricane Party, was looking for a nice place in a field to have a bit of a lie down. He chose a shaded spot behind a small Land Rover truck just outside of the backstage area. He was resting quite peacefully when the driver of the Land Rover needed to move the vehicle. Unfortunately, the driver failed to notice the skinny blond guy sleeping behind his truck and summarily ran over him. Not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES. Thats right, he ran over the guy! Amazingly, Johnny the guitarist walked away with only a broken wrist and tire tracks across his back. Oh, and he probably did loose a couple of his allotted nine lives in the process.
Other than this little incident (and a few others I can recall) the UK / Euro tour has gone great. Meat has been in top form and the band has been tight.
The shows keep getting better as we go along and I know that by the time we start in the states, we'll be well oiled. Part of the problem was the amount of days off we had on this particular run. Normally, we'd be doing three to four shows a week, two on, one off, that type of thing. Because of the availability of venues on this run, we've done as little as one show in a week and had more days off, than anyone would like. Not only does it not help in terms of finding a groove playing wise, it also manages to burn our collective per-deim faster than anyone would like.
    "
