Personally I thought last night in Liverpool was the best I've seen Meat Loaf for as long as I can remember.
Even though he could still beat any star in a stare out, Meat Loaf's voice sounded a little bit weaker last night, and at times his vocal style seemed more like a series of mannerisms.
Meat Loaf will go down in history for his part in bringing the spectacle of theatre to rock 'n' roll. And his theatrical performance last night did not disappoint.
Meat Loaf still cuts a portly figure on stage, and while that hampers his performance slightly - with some heavy breathing down the microphone in parts - it doesn't detract from what is essentially a superb performer doing what he does best.
Back in town for the first time since 2002, Meat Loaf and his superb band played a greatest hits set that left no stone unturned, delighting the crowd with all the tunes they had flocked to see, including 'You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth', 'Black Betty', 'I'd Do Anything for Love', 'Dead Ringer for Love' and of course, the greatest rock anthem of all time, 'Bat Out of Hell'; 4,500 people went home extremely hoarse after the biggest rock karaoke of the year.
Kasim Sulton
Kasim described this concert as "Got here early in the day after taking the train up by myself from Manchester. The venue is actually located in the Docklands area of the city. The show was great and the crowd of about 5000 people were on their feet the whole evening. It was a rare in-door gig for us and we're coming back here next week for the second of two shows. The one we did last night was added on at the last minute because the tickets went so fast."
Kasim Sulton has updated his journal about this gig. There are photos of Kasim himself here, here, here and here.
