Review by SueW:
The short review of the gig was that I thought it was a great performance. A bit short but Meat Loaf's voice was excellent and Kasim looked and sounded great!
According to newspaper reports there were about 20,000 people in this field in the middle of the Dutch countryside for the one day festival. There were two stages with each artist playing for an hour and then the next stage taking over promptly on the hour.
The exception was the headliner, Meat Loaf, who was advertised as playing for an hour and three quarters but in fact played for less than and hour and a half (85 minutes). They also started a couple of minutes early.

It was the same set list as at the other concerts (except Hannover) and the audience seemed to really enjoy it. Considering this was a festival and not a Meat Loaf concert, most people (at least at the front where I was) seem to know the words to not only the songs from Bat Out Of Hell but songs like Life Is A Lemon too.
My main complaint of the show was that the lighting on Kasim was diabolical. All the others had their faces lit up at times (not just when they were in the spotlight) but I don’t know if Kasim’s “up-light” wasn’t working or not but his face was very rarely lit….I ended up resorting to only taking photos when Meat Loaf or Patti Russo were walking away from him and he was shown in their spotlights! He also rarely ventured to the front of the stage tonight (maybe he suffers from vertigo as it was a very high stage?!!) so he was in the shadows for almost all the concert.
Kasim used two basses tonight during the concert. He started off with his new black KSulton Signature Bass and then went on to a pearl coloured guitar which looked to me more like his old pearl one rather than a new one as the body was fuller (I’m no expert - I go by the colours of basses!).
I’m not going to write another full review of the concert but these are some random musings about the concert:
Meat Loaf’s voice was excellent tonight - the best I’ve heard it for a couple of years. I’ll freely admit that I don’t listen too carefully to the quality of his voice but even I could pick up in songs like the opening of Only When I Feel that it was spot on!
Each time I watch Patti Russo on stage during this tour, I’m amazed more and more at her energy and enthusiasm! Even when the spotlight isn’t on her or she’s not singing into the microphone, she’ll often be singing along or dancing to the music.

CC is another person who is full of energy on stage. There’s really no comparison between her and the others I’ve seen in that role (Pearl, Sarah Douglas and Renee Cologne) as she’s always putting on a good show. On this tour (I think they did it on the CHSIB Tour too) her and Patti trade vocals during the "It’s defective" part of Life Is A Lemon and her voice is really quite strong.
Usually on tour Meat Loaf will spotlight all the band but sadly on this tour Mark Alexander (keyboards) and John Miceli (drums) go almost unnoticed. The girls often take centre stage and Randy and Paul are often in the spotlight (plus Kasim’s always moving around which gets him noticed) but Mark and John are restricted movement-wise by their instruments and they aren’t spotlighted which I think is such a shame as they are the lynchpins of the band.

It was very cold on stage (it was bad enough in the crowd and there were loads of us!) so that several times Kasim breathed into his hands to warm them and often you could see their breath as they were singing!
Again Meat Loaf mentioned that Only When I Feel is from Bat 3!
Some friends remarked on the fact that Meat Loaf appears to "miraculously" have more hair on his head now than he did on the last tour!

For the first time on this tour, they didn’t use the large bat backdrop.
Out Of The Frying Pan (And Into The Fire) was a brilliant performance again tonight - they just kept playing and playing which was wonderful to watch!
Someone near me said that he thought that they were going to play an extra song before Out Of The Frying Pan but they didn’t.
Considering there were about 20,000 people there, it’s a shame that they didn’t opt for a location with more than one single track road leading away from it! Some 21st century loos would have been nice too!
Roll on Belfast on Friday……!
Comments about Kasim at this concert taken from various messageboards and mailing lists include:
"The concert was of course way too short, but it's always too short. No interaction with the public. It's a shame. Meat seemed a little bit tired but he compensated it with his voice. I think that his voice would be even better if the weather was better. It was very cold and that is not good for his vocals. Even Kasim had cold hands, in the beginning he could barely play the bass."
"Cold?? The understatement of the year!! You could see the breathing (which usually only happens during ANOTHER time of year....) of the artists on stage already around 8 pm...."
"There were aprox. 20,000 people watching Meat Loaf and the main newspaper in Holland gave a good review"
Meat-Loaf.nl has a good selection of photos by Connor of the Lichtenvoorde gig that Kasim Sulton played in Holland on Saturday here. The ones that feature Kasim are:

A great shot of Kasim and Randy Flowers
Some really great photos by Markus Hagner (the guy who took some of the photos on KSultonBass.com) of the Meat Loaf concert in Holland on 11th June have been added to the Meat Loaf German Fan Club website. The ones that feature Kasim are:
Looking into the crowd
"Look mom, one handed!"
A great shot of his signature bass

Kasim described this concert as "We took the stage at 10 and besides the fact that it was FREEZING (roughly 55 degrees), we got right down to it and gave what I thought was a good show. No soundcheck didn't help, making the first few songs somewhat of a train wreck. But we managed to regroup somewhere around the middle of the 3rd song."
