Comments by SueW:
Not a review, just some comments about the gig...

The Webster Theater was obviously a theatre once but now has the seats removed. There was a slightly raised part where the bar was located.

Security was very strict at the venue. I managed to get my camera in okay but there were security guards walking around all night (and throwing people out if they got rowdy!).

The first act was a trio with the girl singing lead. By a process of elimination from the listings, I think they were called Lucinda. Their music was quite melodic and apparently they have a single in the West Coast charts at the moment.

The next act (probably Mending Wall) I didn't like at all. All the sound at this venue was loud but I couldn't distinguish a single word they sang all their set! They had a lot of teenage fans there but there were also some 50 somethings near me too who really seemed to be enjoying their set (maybe they were their family?).

The final opening act was Secret Smile which were a 6 piece rock band but they had some good tracks - they obviously had their own set of fans there too as they all seemed to know the words.

The organisation at the venue was very good as the first act played 7.00pm to 7.45pm and then they had 15 minutes to remove their instruments and set up the next. They then played a 45 minute set with 15 minute turn around and so on!

The exception was Patty Smyth and Scandal as they were allowed 30 minutes to set up and played from 10.15pm to 11.30pm including the encore.

Almost the first thing that Patty said when she walked on stage was that it was "too frickin' cold"! (It had actually seemed to have got colder throughout the evening to me.) Later she commented that it was causing problems with the guitars and the lead guitarist had to change his guitar a few times (obviously unexpectedly).

Kasim played his pearl coloured bass with a cord attached to it which is unusual to see for him nowadays. At one point he tried to walk across to the keyboardist but couldn't get right across the stage! Kasim was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans. Kasim stood second in from the right but stayed back far more than the others (Keith often stood in front of him).

Patty chatted between each song!

Before they played No Mistakes, Patty said that they were going to do a Patty Smyth song and that she wrote it about her baby girl. She went on to say that now she is a big girl and Patty has since had 5 sons who are all at home - "you don't know how glad I am to be here tonight"!

The Warrior went down a storm tonight! That was the song that people were mainly talking about afterwards too!

Patty mentioned about the fact that they got back together again due to the VH-1 show Bands Reunited. When she introduced the band she said that Kasim was replacing Ivan but that he is a good friend of them all - "a Staten Island friend"!

There had some technical difficulties through the show which, from what Patty said, meant that they changed the set list. The main problem seemed to be with the feedback, especially towards the end of the set.

They sang Goodbye To You before they went off for probably a whole 2 minutes! I changed tapes then and my second tape screwed up and I can't remember if they sang any more songs when they came back other than Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough and River Deep, Mountain High (I'd been awake for over 30 hours by then!).

The highlight of the whole set was Sometimes Loves Ain't Enough as for the chorus it was just Kasim dueting with Patty which was just brilliant! That's a song that my local radio station will often play but Kasim's version was amazing!
